BLACK CHAYOTE
Black Chayote is a rare and visually striking variety of chayote squash, recognized by its dark green to nearly black skin. Though it shares the same crisp, pear-like shape as its green and white counterparts, the black variety tends to have a slightly firmer texture and a more pronounced, earthy flavor. Inside, its pale flesh is tender when cooked and absorbs seasonings beautifully.
Nutritionally, Black Chayote is a low-calorie, fiber-rich vegetable packed with vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. It is versatile in the kitchen and can be enjoyed raw in salads, or cooked in soups, stir-fries, and stews, where it lends both texture and subtle flavor to dishes.
